Well, true, historically it's been a project of the "Christian left" (e.g. 
Tommy Douglas, the minister/politician (and grandfather to Kiefer 
Sutherland) who led the fight for universal healthcare here in Canada).

He also flirted with eugenics and favoured sterilization of the mentally 
unfit, apparently, but never mind that.  The point here is that the 
government knows best, especially when it's run by the faithful.
