I think there is precedent for societally funded social programs going
back to the beginning of USA's history and in nearly all forms of
government prior (even coercively so, via taxation, sometimes with
representation, sometimes not).  And I think it's in society's best
interest to be healthy, educated, able to travel, able to protect
their life, liberty, pursuit of hapiness, yada yada.  And I also think
that our current budget is out of whack with our best interests.  But
apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public
order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health,
what have the Romans ever done for us?  ;-)

But I am also very sympathetic to strongly limited government, so I
understand the reasoning behind your statements.
