She wasn't the focal point of everything as far as the *characters*
were concerned, only as far as the plot was concerned. And now that
those plot mechanics have been more or less resolved, we could move on
to a new focal point. In fact, having her die at the end of the film
would have been a nice denouement for the character, and provided
endless amounts of angst for Simon, going forward.

Eh, Kaylee's cuter. So is Zoe, for that matter.

Nothing at all, but that's a role Book could easily fill. Would have
provided some nice conflict, too. The sexual tension could be replaced
with tension between Book devotion and Mal's bitterness toward God.
That's a more interesting dynamic than sex anyway.

Ohhh, how I disagree. He was certainly one of the most
*under-exploited* characters on the show, but he had a terrific
set-up. The mysterious back-story, the tension between his ass-kicking
capabilities and his religious devotion, his unique relationship to
Mal, the question of why he was flying in the first place, his
position as the only overtly moral character on the ship... he was
fascinating to me.

I agree he was mostly comic-relief, but I enjoyed watching him far
more than Inara or River.
