Most people don't take the time to even know who is running for Sheriff and Appellate Judge and County Commissioner etc. and most would not have voted in that election. But the EZ choice of checking one box and your ballot is complete allows large numbers of people who are ignorant of a specific election to cast vote in one party's favor when they wouldn't have otherwise done so. ** I think you are exaggerating the effect. Most people vote party line anyway, the effective difference is null. It allows the popular party a way to take advantage of the votes of ignorant and lazy voters.
