I can respect a person who is against the death penalty, whether for principle or practical reasons, and am very sympathetic to the practical ones. And I can respect the position itself even if I disagree with it in principle. It is rather obvious to me that you don't respect the person or the postion regarding those holding an opposing viewpoint. No one says you have to I suppose but don't get your panties in a wad when someone calls you something as mild as a hypocrite.
