No, you are missing the bigger picture.
 
With the Bush cuts, lower income people ended up paying less and contributing
less over all.   The rich also paid less by individual percent but ended up
paying more overall by combined percent.
 
The point I was making there was that the meme that the Bush tax cuts were only
for the wealthy is false.
 
Now, if we raise their taxes but leave the lower income at Bush levels they will
obviously end up paying even more.    The question is whether we should and
whether that is a good thing or not, and whether that increase will make a
difference or not.  Some analysts say it will not, not with the amount of debt
and spending we have.  
 
I am not even saying they should not pay more, I am just saying that the overall
situation is far more complicated than most people admit and thinking that we
can tax the rich and make everything better is not feasible.

According to your own point, Pre-Bush levels would apparently result in paying
less.  Democrats have discussed letting those cuts expire as they were meant to.
That meants them returning to the Clinton era.
