There is a difference in perspective here...you see this as a punishment of the
rich.  I do not see it as punishment.  If I was rich, paying more into the
society I benefit from would only make sense.
 
**the rich do already pay more, by percent and by sheer amount.  They also
purchase and consume more and that means they buy stuff that some people make
and people sell.  They hire more people.  They invest in companies that hire
people.  Etc etc.
