It's that simple? Really? Because, honestly? If one thinks "fat" is a good insult, the most logical extrapolation is that you think it applies to all fat people. "Oh, that guy is so fat, it's disgusting." The least logical assumption is that the speaker believes there are people who are so fat, it's hot!

Yeah. but then, you are not talking about an insult... Phat is a compliment...you wouldn't use that version of the word to insult a person.
"I love that guy, he's so phat!" sounds way different from "What a big, fat idiot!"
Maybe what it comes down to is that I find insults like gay, retarded, faggot, etc to be in the realm of the dull and unimaginative. So it disappoints me when creative people cannot do better.
