Words change. Nothing new there and not much one can do to stop it.  But they 
don't change in a vacuum.
Don't you find it the least bit indicative of our culture that almost every word 
used to indicate homosexuality or homosexuals has rapidly evolved a pejorative 
sense which seems to be used with greater frequency than the prior sense (not to 
mention the slurs invented specifically for the purpose of offense)?  Gays are 
hardly the first group to see their identifying names and characteristics turned 
into slurs and they won't be the last.  That doesn't mean they have to like it 
or that it's a completely meaningless and disconnected phenomenon.
And getting offended when other people get offended by your offense which was 
intended to offend someone else... sorry, that gets too loopy for me to follow.
