It's a strange mixture of sadness and joy. Honestly, at 94, she was ready. She was suffering a lot the past few days and did not want any attempts to extend her life "unnaturally"-no feeding tube or anything like that. Everybody had a real peace, and when the doctor spoke with us last night, he was a bit impressed that we had discussed this and knew exactly what her wishes were. She stuck around many Christmases more than we expected. Every time we thought she was going to die, she would bounce back. But she made it clear that while she didn't want to leave her family behind, she was more than ready. She asked for the priest today and he performed the Last Rites and gave her Communion.

It's all very strange. But I do definitely appreciate the thoughts and prayers. Last night I was holding her hand, and my aunt said I could let go if I wanted, and she squeezed my hand tighter. She was strong and feisty. :)
