flickr viewing permissions

Just curious what the group thinks about how public to make things... On Facebook, I have pretty much everything set to "friends only". On Flickr, to date, I have used a general rule of posting photos with people in them as "friends & family" can view and without people, anyone can view. Am I being too paranoid? It would be easier to share photos with friends if I didn't have to say "make me a contact on flickr". I just did a Google search and it's easy enough to find my account by searching for my name (site:flickr.com james ladan). Peter - you post most of your pictures for anyone to see.
