I don't buy anything for myself beyond necessities from Nov 1st until Jan 1st (my birthday is Dec 31st). The policy is hardest with the little things that would normally be an impulse buy that I never bothered to mention to anyone. Even two days before Christmas the urge is strong to just order the new Over the Rhine album and the new Firefly graphic novel.
