Could be.  FWIW, I've tended to think it's partly due to the fact that 
there are studios with names like "Warner Brothers", where "brothers" is 
clearly part of the corporate branding.

Hmmm, I can't recall whether I've ever seen the Wachowskis capitalized 
like that.  There are plenty of other "brother" filmmaking teams, too, 
like the Farrellys and the Weitzes (although the latter have been working 
separately, lately) and the Polishes and the Strauses, etc., etc.

Note, emphasis on "teams" there.  Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are also 
brothers, and they share a production company (Scott Free), and they have 
often worked with the same people (one year after Tom Cruise starred in 
Ridley's Legend, he starred in Tony's Top Gun; see also how frequent Tony 
star Denzel Washington starred in American Gangster for Ridley), but I 
don't believe they have ever *co-directed* a movie together.
