First off, the Best Buy salesman is just trying to make a sale.   Never
trust them to know everything about everything.   Not saying I know anything
about this technology, but I'm really skeptical.

Second, assuming that she spent around $140 (the going rate of the 2tb
Seagate GoFlex drive at BestBuy) plus $20 for the adaptor, maybe she can
take it back, and then order something online.  Under $200 is a bit of a
stretch, but there are some options.
