BSG takes a few twists and turns with its characters that you'll enjoy more if you experience it with the full tension. For me, the show hit its low point in the beginning of season three (although the first scene of the season is absolutely amazing). I didn't mind that they were just going crazier and crazier with making up the island's backstory as they went on; I enjoyed most of that. But the melodramatic main three characters were especially unbearable during that time and they monopolized the show's time while other plot lines were simply abandoned. Anyway, they recovered or manufactured some focus by the end of that season. That's supposedly when they planned out the basic plot until the finale. And I loved season four onwards. I was certainly more and more obsessed with the show after each season. (DO avoid spoilers! Even moreso than with BSG.)
