Not having cable in the first place helped. :) I mean, you > yourself mentioned Lindsay Lohan. And then you have Britney Spears. Right, I guess I should clarify that I was referring specifically to child "stars" from the Disney/Nickelodeon stable of cheap, cheesy, generic "kidcoms." There was no reason to believe a show like this would amount to anything more than "Kids Incorporated" or "You Can't Do That on Television," or whatever. **And clearly yes there was. Disney had been working on the idea of HM for a while and had shelved it for a while until they found the right cast. **it became exactly what they hoped. Hannah Montana, as I understand it, was created after the success of the "The Cheetah Girls" movie, and as such, it was sort of the first of it's kind. (Unless you want to go all the way back to "The Partridge Family" or "The Monkees," but neither of those programs were specifically "kids" shows, were they? And they didn't have success anywhere near like what "Hannah Montana" has had.) **it took a new twist on the concepts, but it was hardly that unique. Since then, despite embarrassingly transparent marketing efforts, there've been no breakout stars as a result of "Drake and Josh," "iCarly," "The Wizards of Waverly Place," "Sonny With a Chance," "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," "Cory in the House," and so on. **Maybe not to the Montana level but it is not like they are not popular. And what about the Jonas Brothers? So, my point isn't that nobody was hoping for or expecting a successful show, but that nobody could have seen the phenomenon coming. **I don't buy it. Maybe they were not sure, but you cannot honestly tell me they didn't hope. -- dadl-ot mailing list http://mail.thehood.us/mailman/listinfo/dadl-ot_thehood.us http://news.gmane.org/gmane.music.dadl.ot
