Isn't this a problem of the never ending conflict between the marketing people and the engineering ones? Was a new OS really needed to replace XP? (I still have it on a laptop and I find it as easy to use as W7). Couldn't the changes that might have been needed, wifi/networking etc. been done with updates/addons to XP? Wasn't Vista really about having something to release that could be sold as a *new* OS, and then W7 created because Vista was such a PoS and they couldn't go backwards to XP because that would require having to admit why Vista was created/released in the first place. I don't think marketing people have ever heard the axiom "if it ain't broke don't fix it" of if they have they don't believe it.
