I get the complaint about firing for scores.  But the unions use every means
to prevent any kind of firing, be it for misbehavior and things that serious
should not be issues.

 

Maybe if the unions were willing to be realistic about those, the scores
issue would be less of an issue.

Yes.  This will be my 18th year.  Combined with the four years I attended as
a student, I've been at Elgin High School over half my life.  

 

Tenure is dying a slow death, but it's time has come.  Bad teachers need to
be fired, but defining what "bad" means is not as easy as it sounds.  I
think most teachers will embrace it if the mechanism they come up with is
fair and takes into account more than just standardized test scores.

 

Yes, I've seen Waiting for Superman, and it's both completely true and
frustratingly naive at the same time.  Same vibe I felt after watching An
Inconvenient Truth.
