Re: the fire that burns a little branch every day

Every bit of what you wrote put me in tears.

One of my best friends' dad is going through a slower but similarly
inevitable downward spiral with cancer. And I'm still hit with pangs of
sadness or regret every other day about my grandfather who died almost four
months ago. That gaunt shell who could barely speak and would not leave the
bed was only an echo of the man with the firmest handshake in the world.

I don't even know how to pray any more (did I ever?), but my feeble prayers
tonight are for you.

(And in the middle of all of this is your engagement! What a world of
emotions. Congratulations, by the way.)
