The part time monk guy decided to continue his beer fast right through so he 
will be going 46 days.  I think taking Sundays off would make a serious fast 
more difficult because you would have to, in effect, start over every Monday.

During Orthodox Lent, the fasting rules are relaxed just a wee bit on weekends 
... and what that means is that we get to drink wine (or beer or similar 
alcoholic drinks).  Which doesn't do *me* a lot of good, since I never drink the 
stuff in the first place, but anyhoo.
