I suppose it would depend on the flat rate you establish.  But any taxation 
based on income is a form of extortion.  I know that is whacko talk but the idea 
that your labor, at least a portion of it, is repugnant, to me at least.

I suppose no form of taxation is free from flaws but at least with a consumption 
based system you have some control over what you are being taxed.

Cut the charitable-giving deduction too?  Thereby reducing the amount that 
people give to charities to take care of all the social programs that even the 
government doesn't have enough money to pay for, etc.?

And speaking personally, I rather appreciate the fact that we get a tax credit 
and/or benefit not only for having children (i.e. for raising the next 
generation of taxpayer, which is something our societies with their low birth 
rites might want to encourage), but for our son's disability.
