No...I just don't think it was beyond the pale. This was strictly juvenile antics. It isn't like the tried to make him out as a child molester or something. It's basically name calling. That hardly falls into the realm of "anything is ok as long as it takes down a political opponent". That you are arguing such a thing over childish name calling seems a tad bit extreme.
