I started with an Epiphone in the '70's, and my house burned down,lost it, so I went with Sky Blue Rickenbacker, had to pay rent, hocked it , lost it. used a little cheap Jap. bass then my band got sponsered picked a Aluminum Kramer bass which I still have. It's heavy in every sense of the word! So I got a SB900le Ibanez, (light!), then a five string Ibanez.And until recently that was it.
  I'm trying to start a music store now. so I'm buying any good bass I can find  that's inexpensive. I never could afford Fenders, Gibson,Top line musicman, G and L, Lakland.
  I want to sniff out good stuff $200 and $700 And if it's made in America all the better. But THAT'S HARD!
  When Paul McCartney was young he couldn't afford a Fender--they were the "expensive" then. He said that "while I could probably buy the company", He never felt like he could afford it..weird as it is , I kinda feel the same way.  BUT! If I ever find a way to get the "Roscoe Beck" Fender bass I'll do it!!!! The most amazing bass I have right now is a Antonio Tsai neck-thru 5- string. It looks,(body-shape wise), like a Peavey grind. with bird's eye Bubinga. And then he inlaid Abalone and Mother of Pearl in it. There is Stars, and Saturn, and Comets, Shooting stars--it's pretty much un-real! I have many Toni Tsai instruments: Banjos, Mandolins,Guitars, even a Violin,(I don't know how to play it--it's just awesome!). I have a Peavey "Zodiac EX" which is very much like a "P" bass. A Toni Tsai bass with more SCULLS on it than anything I've ever seen,( it's not for me...), Sculls inlaid into the neck, Sculls hand carved and painted on the body,--and the
 strap pins/tone knobs? yep, you bet--Sculls! Thru the SVT, IT COMES ALIVE! There many jokes that can be made with this...--wakes the dead..you know!
  I figure some younger guy will buy it...maybe not...maybe it's just bass to pull out at Halloween!
  I'll sell it for $300 and shipping...
  And, of course, trade it and more for the "Roscoe Beck".
  I was at Lamoine, Nevada on a Cowboy gig, and my little Sabre body Ibanez took several direct hits at the "cow chip" toss! It's plenty tough!

I play in a wedding band and have been using a USA Lakland 5 string for the past 5 years. I have 2 G&L 5's that I use to practice with and take on the occasional bluse gig.
