I have done it,,,,BUT...My day job is as a Millwright contractor and I have=
 a=20
complete machine shop. Even with all those resources it was a bear!

The first thing you need is a 3 foot straight edge to check for hight frets=
.=20
After masking the finger board I used Prussian blue and the "edge"=C2=A0to =
locate the=20
high spots. Then I used a diamond stone to get everything flat (After=20
"deadjusting" the truss rods to get the neck straight with the strings off)=
, but=20
I have been told it can be done with a ground steel block wrapped in 400 to=
 600=20
grit wet/dry paper.=20


After you get everything flat=C2=A0there is the fun part of re-shaping the =
frets. I=20
don't own a fret file so used a 3-square file. (What a Pain!)

Then you put the strings back, re-adjust the Truss rods (The bass I did it =
on=20
has 2) re-set the bridge and intonation and then dial in everything over th=
e=20
next 3 days.

Everything came out fine but I wouldn't do it again on a bet!=20

There is a guy in my area that only charges $75 for a fret job (Cost of=C2=
=A0a fret=20
file that I sure wish I had when I did it)=20


Hey, did I say the first thing you have to do is get a streight edge? NOT=20

For $75 to $100 the FIRST thing I should have done was to have my head exam=
ined!

Never again.

Anyone on here ever stoned their own frets? (not a euphemism)

I've got a 6-string Toby Pro and I like to keep the action fairly low (it's=
 not=20
for slapping) but the 15th fret's definitely proud.

I'm a fairly hands-on guy (I've changed engines) so I can't see it can be t=
hat=20
difficult, usual story - right tools, right attitude, plenty of time to kee=
p=20
quality high.

Anyone on here done it themselves? If only so you can keep an eye on your=20
precious :-)
