RE: Note layout Hohner Echo 48 in G

I have a double-sided Echo 96 in D/G which I suspect has the same layout as yours on the G side. 1-blow is G. The low end, bottom four holes, is tuned like a blues harp, with the fourth note of the scale (C) missing, 2-draw and 3-blow replicated (D) and the sixth note (E) missing. Heaven knows why Hohner persist with this inconvenient tuning.  I retune mine to put that missing sixth back. The two octaves up from 4-blow are complete (I never really venture above this into the squeaky zone!).  You do have to adopt a slightly different technique to play a tremolo accurately, but this should not be too difficult to master considering you already play both diatonic and chromatic and are therefore used to the different layouts on those.
