K5 OS DIY programming

First, I'd like to know if the OS EPROM has 28 or 32 pins. If 28, 
continue reading it, if 32 reply me and flush it.

Some people told they didn't wanted to update the OS themselves because 
they need to erase the chip with a UV light, or if they buy a new one 
and get a programming error, they'll have to erase it with a UV(Not 
cheap, don't make one, it's dangerous) so it's a great loss of money if 
you miss it. After some searching, I found(finally) a Flash ROM 
replacement to the EPROM. That means no UV light needed. Here's the part 
number : SST27SF512-70-3C-PG (SST makes them, available @ mouser). Then, 
all you need is a programmer that supports it. There are plenty of them, 
but one I found to make your self is the Willem programmer.

http://www.willem.org/(Available as a kit too). So all you need is to 
get all of these things and the OS HEX file to update it by yourself.

Note: I haven't checked if the Flash ROM is compatible with the 27C512, 
but it might be since it contains 27?512, tells it's CMOS voltage and 
tells it's a good replacements for old EPROMs. Search for 
SST27SF512-70-3C-PG at mouser.com for the datasheet. And 27c512 for the 
27c512'S one.
