Hi and question

Hi all.

I have had a K5 since it was new (around '88 It think) and a k5m that I got a used a year later.  Like everyone, I have my share of dead and dimming LCDs that I took into the shop.   I got so much fun playing these two units togter into a pair of stero amps with me in the center.     I loved and still do love my k5.   Of course I am back in then dim LCD mode again.  I want t get them fixed up.  I have read through most of the emails on this group back a few weeks ago when I joined, and I intend to revisit the archive again.

Meanwhile, my present mission.  I want to use the sysex files as raw material and do a simulated K5 in software.
Either just in C, perhaps likely processing it into something that I can use in Csounds.   I really liked some of those sounds like aluminum, and the bells, and I dunno, I guess I am a bit of center.  It's just want I want to do. 
 
I open the sysfiles and dump the it in hex and the data looks right based on the sysex document but the name fields ascii is not what I would expect.  I also I gather from the archive that some of the data is non linear.  

Also, I have windoes XP, What is the current way to go for librarian and/or editior ?  latest story on LCD roms? I live in San Jose if it matters, I read that someone took their K5 to a shop in San Mateo.
