My K5 battery went dead a few years back. In the process of trying to pry it out so that I could replace it, the battery holder snapped off its soldered connections to the board. I was able to rig a new battery and battery holder with wire leads and resolder it to the board. The memory was completely lost in this process, but i was able to use the Kfuenf librarian from http://www.kfuenf.org/ to reload the default patches. It doesn't sound to me like your battery, though. My K5 unit continued to work, but all its banks were reset to the default patch, which is a simple, whiny waveform. I'm wondering if your issue is with the power supply or ac/dc converter? I wouldn't be surprised if the clicking you hear is from a failed relay switch or a relay switch that is getting improper current. Good luck.
