Actually, I wonder if something is wrong.  I have a K5m, and it does not exhibit this behavior as far as I can tell.  It's not right in front of me this moment, but I'll try to check it out tonight when I get home.  I don't recall seeing any MIDI traffic when it just sits there on the bus.

Active sense data can be filtered out as mentioned by others, and it's not usually that much data.  But if what you're saying is that you are getting gobs of bulk sysex dumps one after the other, then I'd guess there's something else going on.

What happens if you attach a single K5m to a computer and disable all MIDI software except for a message dump utility (hook up the OUT port on the K5m only)?  Does it still dump stuff?  I'd start by isolating each unit and seeing what the behavior is individually.  I had a recent problem with an Akai S2000 that required this approach; turns out that it won't boot off the floppy if there is any MIDI traffic of any kind on the cable.  I could not figure out why it would boot in some cases but not others; isolating it gave me the clue I needed.  I would never have guessed MIDI traffic as the problem; I thought I had a floppy drive to replace or a bad floppy controller.  So, I can't be pressing any keys on my master controller when I power on the Akai :-)
