Re: Problems updating GE disks in OS 2.0

You need more than 3 disks.  Try following these directions to a "t":

Loading System Software 2.0 (in Detail!)
Note: we are going to completely erase the contents of the keyboard's 
memory. If you
have any data you want to save, do it now!
You must not only upgrade the system software (OS), but you must 
reload the factory
GE data (which resides in static RAM), since the data format of the 
GEs has changed
slightly. Since this will erase the internal memory, you need to load 
your sounds back
also.
You will need 6 new floppy disks (well, you could get away with 3, 
and reuse them in
between, but why make it difficult?) If you ever need to reload the 
OS, GEs and
PRELOAD, you will have all 6 floppies ready and available.
In order to make things go smoothly, I suggest formatting each of the 
6 floppies first in
the Karma Keyboard itself, using the QUICK FORMAT option. Go to Disk 
Mode and
insert each disk, hit [F3] Utility, press [F8] UTILITY and 
select "Format." Select "Quick
Format" (default) and answer OK.
1. Creating the System Files (OS) Disks:
a. Open the folder "OS_DISKS." There are three folders inside, each 
one
corresponding to one floppy disk. You do not drag the folders onto 
the floppies.
You drag the contents of the folders onto the floppies.
b. Open the "OsDisk1" folder, and copy the two (2) files onto Floppy 
#1.
c. Open the "OsDisk2" folder, and copy the one (1) file onto Floppy 
#2.
d. Open the "OsDisk3" folder, and copy the one (1) file onto Floppy 
#3.
Again, copy only the contents of the folders, not the folders 
themselves.
2. Creating the GE Disks:
a. Open the folder "GE_DISKS". There are two folders inside, each one
corresponding to one floppy disk. You do not drag the folders onto 
the floppies.
You drag the contents of the folders onto the floppies.
b. Open the "GeDisk1" folder, and copy the two (2) files onto Floppy 
#4.
c. Open the "GeDisk2" folder, and copy the one (1) file onto Floppy 
#5.
3. Creating the Factory PRELOAD Disk:
Open the folder "V2_PRELOAD." Drag the one (1) file onto Floppy #6. 
Note that if
you have backed up your own internal data as advised prior to 
starting this
procedure, you can skip this step if all you want to do is restore 
your own sounds.
4. Loading the System Software (3 floppies):
Note: we are going to completely erase the contents of the keyboard's 
memory. If
you have any data you want to save, do it now!
a. If your Karma is on, turn it off. Hold down the [Enter] + [Locate] 
keys of the 9
key pad and Sequencer section to the right of the LCD display 
simultaneously,
and turn on the power. Continue holding the two keys until you see a 
blank
display containing the words: "Please insert System 1 disk."
b. Insert OS Disk 1. It will read in the data, and you will see "Now 
loading…",
"Now erasing ROM", "Now checking the system's checksum", and 
eventually it
will say "Please change to system 2 disk."
c. Insert OS Disk 2. It will read in the data as above, and 
eventually say "Please
change to system 3 disk."
d. Insert OS Disk 3. It will read in the data as above, and then you 
will see
"System load complete", and "Starting system." Then the familiar 
screens will
appear.
5. Loading the GE data (2 floppies):
a. If your Karma is on, turn it off. Hold down the [Enter] + [Locate] 
keys of the 9
key pad and Sequencer section to the right of the LCD display 
simultaneously,
and turn on the power. Continue holding the two keys until you see a 
blank
display containing the words: "Please insert System 1 disk."
b. Insert GE Disk 1. It will read in the data, and you will see "Now 
loading…",
"Now erasing ROM", "Now checking the system's checksum", and 
eventually it
will say "Please change to system 2 disk."
c. Insert GE Disk 2. It will read in the data as above, and then you 
will see
"System load complete", and "Starting system." Then the familiar 
screens will
appear.
6. Resetting memory:
a. Power off again. Power on, this time while holding down the 
[Enter] + [0] keys.
You will see "Starting system" followed by "Now writing into internal 
memory."
At this point, the entire memory is wiped clean (except for the GEs 
you loaded
in step 5).
7. Restoring the actual Sound Data (Program, Combis):
a. Insert the Factory PRELOAD disk you created in Step 3, go to Disk 
Mode [F1]
Load, cursor so that "PRELOAD.PCG" is selected, press [F8] UTILITY and
choose "Load selected." You do not need to load .SNG or .KGE data 
also, so
leave them unchecked, OR…
b. Reload your own data that you backed up prior to starting this 
procedure.
Congratulations! You're now ready to proceed with 2.0 System Software.
