Care and caution needed when loading Triton PCGs into Karma.

Actually, we've had more than a few newbies past and present who 
overwrote the Karma factory program banks in A, B, and E; then they 
wondered why most of their combis were corrupted.  I would not 
recommend overwriting these banks because ALL factory combis and ALL 
the 3rd party combis from EJ2 (except for TRANZFER) and KarmaLab 
reference those programs in A, B, and E (and of course G).  True, 
you could develop your own "Setup" PCG that would swap everything 
back to original "factory" state, but that's going to entail a few 
floppies and a great deal of care and caution in the process.

You cannot load any bank of programs in F. You can only load EXB 
MOSS programs in there.  Conversely, MOSS programs will only load in 
bank F, not in the others.  It's the Combi Bank F the can receive 
any PCG regardless of whether it is MOSS based or not.  True you can 
load other EXBs pcgs in any bank except F, but unless you want to 
have your sounds disorganized, your factory combis corrupt, and your 
3rd party sets looking for their corresponding programs, I would 
learn to put those extras in C and D as I previously recommended.  
Sure would be nice to have a USB interface with active sensing to 
keep everything in order wouldn't it.

That would be helpful.  Such processes have been disussed here and 
over at KLF and IA.  If KARMA-fied banks of programs and especially 
Combis are not an issue, and you simply want to work with straight 
traditional synth sounds sans arps or GEs, then by all means go to 
it.  Frankly, however,I  opt for a "Favorites" PCG that compiles in 
C or D.  And that's what I still recommend.  After all, the Karma 
was built to handle KARMA technology.  That's why I bought a Karma 
instead of a Triton and I keep it in tip top Karma form.  That's not 
to say I haven't dressed my Karma up as a Triton.  However, as you 
point out, PCG and bank management is very crucial and it requires 
multiple floppies and other archive formats (computer hard drive 
copies of pcgs and set ups etc.).  Just the same, I have clients who 
are well versed in swapping pcgs who ask me to re-upload pcgs 
because they have crashed their computers, lost floppies, or have 
overwritten their banks experimenting with other offerings.  I have 
my material stored in 4 locations to be sure,,,LOL.  I guess a brief 
tutorial on bank management wouldn't hurt. That would be great, Paul.
