  I know exactly what you mean about music store employees. I'm
  still lucky in that a few veterans are still around, so we can talk
  shop freely. Be that as it may, I still do my own auditions...and not
  just a fews times...before I make a decision. Right now, we've got
  about a little under 3 months to the winter NAMM. I expect there will
  be quite an array of new product coming out. Yamaha and Roland have
  yet to answer the OASYS, but Korg has the jump on them and most likely
  they'll be coming out with more spin offs following the RADIAS. I
  know Stephen Kay is being tight lipped about what he's working on as well.

  There are some super soft synths now on the market - Spectrasonics,
  East West libraries etc. and some freebies like Crystal. If you have
  a good host application, that might be an alternative. Sorry I can't
  be of more assistance.
