I think you probably have a bad knob - the third (or 2nd maybe) of the 4 little knobs on 
the left side, right over the joystick, controls the amplifier or filter decay, and if it's 
sending bad data to the microprocessor, it would exhibit behavior like you describe - very 
fast cut-offs (staccato) when you change patches. To check, try turning that knob to the 
left right after you select a new sound, and see if that affects the problem. Good luck! So it 
would be hardware, but not all Karmas or even less, all Korgs.
