thank you for your nice message - and thank you for the clarifications on many points!
When comparing the speed of the K2500 and that of the K2000, I think it is important to isolate on one hand the DSP chains (the K2500 has two of them, that's how the DSP is handled for twice the polyphony of the K2000!), and the CPU (more exactly MCU). The 68000-type MCU in the K2000 runs probably at 16 MHz; the MCU in the K2500, although more advance in the 68000 line, runs at less than 25 MHz (from memory, from reading its datasheet; but not sure about the clock used, it may be less!)
The sequencer in the K2000 is sluggish even when recording only a lonely 2nd or 3rd track in my K2000 - so yes, this is an area for improvement. How about a "blind" sequencer - one without much display going on? This is useful only if the display routines may offset the recording, I have not tested it; anybody's experience with that would be enlightening.
A final note about reverse-engineering the DSPs. This is of course a difficult aim, and definitely not my first objective. But the "random DSP trick" that you must know about (and that I think is described somewhere on Kurzweil's website) shows that DSP algorithms can be reprogrammed; and I fantasize that this is done by the MCU, with 68000 code and data... I know I am a dreamer, so time will tell I guess!
