 MIDI cable should be treated just like unbalanced audio cable, so a great deal of your concerns about length is going to be addressed through the use of quality cables and connectors. Generally speaking, 50 feet is the maximum length for a quality MIDI cable. 

 

 To my knowledge, the MIDI port on the Behringer XR18 is meant for MIDI control of the mixer itself, but since it can also act as an interface, you'd have the one port. You'd have to daisy chain your two instruments as you would with any single-port interface.
