Hi James.
I was in the same position as yourself, and I looked at whether it might run on windows simulators like iPadian, but it's not possible..  Then I bit the bullet last night and bought a used ipad 2nd generation, specifically to use with the GeoShred app, as well as other music apps and synths eventually.  
I don't need cameras or word processors, because I have all that on other stuff like my phone and laptop, but as Chris pointed out, a platform that will support sensibly implimented apps like this seems like a good idea and a logical way to go, and  ipad seems to be a way of accessing loads of pro-spec music apps and soft synths, at much cheap prices than equivalent Windows platform software..  

Otherwise, apart from being able to run dedicated music apps, I wouldn't bother with investing in one at all.  Now, I just need to find out which is the best OS to install, so that I can get it to run reliably without crackling.  

It did strike me as a useful app to program bass parts with via USB 2 midi out, as it's normally tuned in fourths, and I'll also experiment tuning it in fifths maybe, and see if that makes sense.  The interval jumps and chords may not be so easy though..   I also want to set it up as a small isomorphic keyboard if I can, and try that. 

I must say that tuning in fifths on my Ztar was difficult to make any sense of, and nearly drove me mad, and I gave up on that after a few months of persevering. Trying to re-learn scale shapes and exercises after decades of guitar was not easy at all. 
 On Ztar, I almost always use use normal guitar tuning with the same octave doubled higher up the neck at the twelfth fret,  and play that 'guitar-zone' in normal guitar tuning for chords and scales and leads and harmonies,  with my right hand.. 
That has always seemed the easiest way to go for me, although Warr-guitar and Chapman Stick players probably wouldn't agree with that approach at all.. 

  There's also the option of using Ztar midi out, to GeoShred midi in, but without the pitch bend and vibrato on any Ztar 'string' of course, although it will receive modulation cc's and individual note aftertouch, and the Ztar will send them. I recognise that it's never going to sound anything like a Roli Seaboard..
I'll keep the group posted on my progress..
But regardless.. A a new and very expressive instrument to explore.. Sounds good to me.:-)
