Hi All, I haven't posted for a long while. I have a Casio PG380 synth guitar, and have always been bothered by the iPD MIX socket being quite a bit lower in volume compared to the straight guitar out socket. I understand the logic behind Casio doing this - it is so that if you run both the synth sound blended with the original guitar sound through the MIX socket, it doesn't overload the amp or PA system input because of both signals coming out of the same socket, compared to the straight guitar out socket.

But I think it was overkill. It is most noticeable when you just want to swap between the synth sound and the guitar sound while using just one socket by turning one volume off and the other on and vice versa; if you're using a guitar amp with only one input, you don&
#39;t have any other choice. The problem becomes noticeable when you're running a distortion pedal off the iPD MIX output - the guitar signal from this socket just doesn't drive the pedal hard enough compared to the straight guitar out socket.

I've just uploaded a DIY MOD into the FILES section that will help with this. Basically I've just reduced the value of 2 resistors on the PG380 output circuit board that control the output volumes of the synth and guitar volumes by soldering 2 resistors in parallel to the 2 board resistors, lowering their overall resistance, and allowing a higher signal through to the iPD MIX socket. There is a limit to how far you can reduce the synth line resistance - after a certain value, you get a significant amount of digital noise comi
ng through when the synth volume control is in the maximum and minimum positions. The guitar resistance however can be lowered significantly more than I did if you want more guitar volume - but it will be louder in comparison to the synth mix. This might not be a problem. You can still always turn the guitar volume knob down a little to get the right mix.

Cheers, Graham
