No, but a lot of these oldie stations are closing down ('The Radio
Ship'' last month, '2 Nations Gold a while back). Crowded market with
the Grim Reaper reducing their listening population. Tony Prince's
'United DJ's' also ceased broadcasting after three years with Prince
stating, "We have not been unable to attract enough listeners to make
the station commercially viable". The ones that survive are usually
hobby stations which do not rely on advertising (e.g. 'Offshore Music
Radio') or have some unique character like LPs only 'Radio Caroline' and
their oldie station 'Radio Caroline Flashback' which has been
broadcasting almost non stop since 1964 - they even have their own
original pirate radio ship, the Ross Revenge', moored in the Blackwater
estuary. There is also the excellent Radio Mi Amigo International which
broadcasts to the world on short wave (+ an internet stream) from a
bunker in the Eiffel forest. Huge radio enthusiast following with DJ's
including Emperor Rosko and Ron O'Quinn at the weekend's. These are
available via Paul Webster's Radio Now Playing plugin.
