agree. @yonso, you could try spraying some deoxit or another type of
contact cleaner, even alcohol or WD-40 on the barrel and/of jack,
connect, spin, disconnect, repeat.

In your earlier post you said "stopped by a shop and tried an 18v 1.2ma
adaptor". Was it new? Just because an adaptor measures 18v, doesn't mean
it will supply the current needed. Also, be careful to insure the
polarity of the adaptor for the radio. I can't recall if it's center
positive? A new adaptor such as @w3w's suggestion isn't that expensive
to try.

I have been through this with several radios, and the problem was never
due to the radio.
