Something new, this just didn't let me sleep. So I tried to use the CPU board from the Transporter that would not play on a different Transporter mainboard, and well, the problem is gone! So everything points towards the mainboard now. Next to the CPU board connector is the Xilinx XC9572XL - considered and called FPGA even though Xilinx call it a CPLD. Anyway, it provides the interface between the CPU, the DAC, and the ADC board, and it being damaged would explain a lot of the issues. I'm going to measure around that chip. Unfortunately, it's a model that is not even in the AMD/Xilinx datasheet (https://docs.xilinx.com/v/u/en-US/ds057). The chip marking is: XC9572XL VQG44AWN0745 F3107957A 10C The closest in the Xilinx datasheet is the XC9572XL-7VQG44I. VQG44 means it's a QFP package with 44 pins which appears to be correct. I think they have changed the markings between when the Transporter was built and nowadays. The number after the dash (in the new marking schema) according to the datasheet is a speed indication for the pin-to-pin delay, and 7 means 7.5 nanoseconds. Maybe the 0745 part of the old marking indicates the same? Unfortunately, it's not the same component as in other Squeezebox models, for instance, the Boom and Classic, of which I have plenty of dead boards, are using an XC95*36*XL which means it has only half the amount of gates (800) and macro cells (36) so it's not compatible. So if need be, I'd have to order the best fit from Mouser or Digikey or whatever. Could also be a cold solder joint or a fault in the local power regulation. Well, eventually it could also be something totally different, e.g. the DAC itself, or anything along the way. But the CPLD is my prime suspect for now, and I'm happy that the CPU board is not having issues for a change. I'll see what I can find and keep you updated. Cheers, Joe PN me if your Boom / Classic / Transporter display has issues!
