I did say that and there are a couple of reasons. The main one is that
it then becomes very easy to change things across your entire network in
one go e.g. DNS servers. 

It also avoids accidentally disconnecting the Pi from the network
entirely if you find yourself with a new router with a different sub net
than your old one. e.g. old router is 192.168.1.1 but ISP sends you a
new one with 192.168.0.1. With the Pi on DHCP you will be able to find
it from the new router's DHCP table and then reserve a new address. If
you assigned static you would either have to connect a monitor, keyboard
and mouse to the Pi to re-assign or temporarily manually configure a PC
onto the old network range to adjust the Pi's IP (which is easy if you
know how but not straightforward to the everyday user).

Assigning a static IP is a definite no no when using a Pi on WiFi but
reserving via DHCP is OK as the IP won't get assigned until the WiFi has
connected and the network is properly up. Personally I would only run a
Pi based player on WiFi. If acting as LMS server I would always wire it.
