I had been using the 1.0 and 1.0.1 servers and got the sound going silent on both. 1.5 I never used at all, because I went straight to 1.6 and fixed the code in that one. Neither machine is doing any routing or bridging. Both machines I've run the server from have wireless cards which talk to an Apple Airport basestation which is in turn plugged into my router. They both have second network cards which I plugged the twisted cable into (attached to the slimp3) and although the perl server receieved the IR signals, the unit never receieved any reply. Only when I disabled the wireless card on the win2k machine did it leap into life (I never tried disabling the wireless card in the G4). That's when I decided to add the LocalAddr line to the server code to see if that worked, added it, enabled the wireless card again and everything was still working. Did a reboot of the win2k machine as well just to make sure both cards were functioning ok and they are. A few other things have changed since the stuttery sound. I'm still using the same 4.5V power supply. The unit is now connected directly to the win2k server with the twisted cable instead of being plugged with a normal cable into my router (which was then communicating with the G4 server via the Airport). I'm using it on a different stereo, I'm using my modified 1.6 server instead of the standard 1.0.1 one. It's difficult to tell which one of these solved the stuttery sound (I've never had any other network problems or issues with the other stereo) but it certainly seemed to be my soldering of the chip that gave me sound in the first place. I've certainly been the victim of a few problems, and can't explain why the wildcard IP address was stopping it from working (I agree that when receiving a UDP packet, it should be able to do a straight reply) but the LocalAddr addition does seem like the fix for that. The stuttery sound problem is harder to pinpoint a fix on, but hey - I'm just glad it finally works! :) Richard Smith [email protected] - Free, REALLY customisable hosted messageboards - http://www.chatbear.com/ - I wrote them, trust me, they're good... :) - Plus, coming soon, http://www.theonewith.com/ > -----Original Message----- > From: Sean Adams [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: 12 October 2001 01:35 > To: Richard Smith > Cc: [email protected] > Subject: [slimp3-dev] RE: Power Supply > > > > Great!
