proxy clarification

I think I was being a bit dense here. What you're saying is that you want
to use one interface to talk to the player, but you want to specify the
interface as the source address for "upstream" TCP? For some reason I
thought you wanted udp packets going back to the player to go out of a
different interface than the one that player is using to talk to us.
This doesn't make sense:
[player]------>[(1) server (2)]-----
^ |
|-------------------------------
This is okay - just need to add config options so it binds to the
interface you want:
[player]<----->[(1) server (2)]<-------//------->[shoutcast]
satellite link
(or whatever)
TCP will take care of the buffering, so it'll be okay if there's a
high latency link between the SliMP3 server and the shoutcast server.
