Slim webcast alarm clock?

I'm sure this has been covered at some time, but I didn't see anything
on my quick look around the archives.

The idea is simple:  A device that I can use as a webcast/alarm clock.
 The requirments for this...

1. Can pipe MP3 audio from my PC (ala SLiMP3)
2. Have a large snooze button and small off switch
3. Cheap AMP + Speakers (audio quality of Fred Meyer boom box)

One of the biggest problems with this setup is how to connect the box
to the network.

Possible solutions:

1. HPNA through phone lines
2. 802.11b through air waves
3. CAT5 wire
4. Er, whatever the lastest standard is for power lines.

The problem with #1 is that it's too expensive.
The problem with #2 is that someone will do a drive by hacking (I've
friends who'd enjoy doing that at 2am)
The problem with #3 is getting a wire to the room -- yet I feel this
should always be a required capability anyhow.
The problem with #4 is that they can't seem to decide on a reliable
standard.

I'd like #4 if they could do a reliable 10Mb ethernet through the
power lines, and provide a cheap connector to the PC.

Anyone actually do this?  Talk about one hell of an alarm clock.  

1. Get the time from an atomic clock on the internet
2. Get scheduled alarm times from your calendaring software
3. Program custom alarm sounds and music

Does the current server software support these features already?

My SLiMP3 is due to arive today by UPS.  Of course, I won't be able to
get it as no-one will be here.  I'll have to do this stupid dance with
UPS again... (sigh)  I hate them.
