Robin, A *lot*. It's more a function of the total data rate you're serving than the number of players. I recently ran a test with fifteen players connected to a Netgear 10/100 16-port switch, with a PowerPC G4/400 as the server. You can read the detailed report here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/slimp3-dev/message/1407 Setting up a test with a larger number of players would be a bit of work, as you can imagine. If we can get the emulator software finished, that will give us the ability to easily test with a large number of simulated players. Until then, we won't really know what the limit is, but it's safe to say that a 1GHz+ machine could handle a couple hundred clients. Nobody is currently using such a large number of players, but it would be possible if an ISP or a housing complex wanted to deploy such a system. If you're running linux, just run "top" to see how much CPU time the server is using. It probably won't even show up on the list if you just have a single client.
