Sorry, I hit send before I meant to.

Here's what I would use today if I was building a brand new
server appliance:

<http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-Details.asp?sku=S451-3001>

It's a cute little aluminum cube (ok, not as little as the
cerfcube), it's got a low power/low heat C3 processor, 128M of RAM.
Ready for a hard drive and maybe a floppy. Add a CD-ROM drive to
the mix for ripping... Oh yeah, it's got two firewire ports if
you want to expand hard drives easily...

Pretty nice deal.

Let's see: $379 for the cerfcube, $399
for a complete PC ready to run

linux already with a 20GB hard drive.

You could easily build a stand-alone server with an ATA hard drive,

x86 processor with better performance and it would cost a _LOT_
less.

I've built a couple of systems like this for friends and the biggest

problem is finding a small, quiet and inexpensive case.

Anybody got any good case recommendations for server appliances?
