Let's see: $379 for the cerfcube, $399 for a complete PC ready to
run linux already with a 20GB hard drive.

You could easily build a stand-alone server with an ATA hard
drive, x86 processor with better performance and it would cost a _LOT_
less.

I've built a couple of systems like this for friends and the
biggest problem is finding a small, quiet and inexpensive case.

Anybody got any good case recommendations for server
appliances?

Yes, cerfcube looks great for a SliMP3
server. It even contains a

USB port. It would be possible to connect a low cost USB hard drive.

I have such a drive (100GB) connected to
my server and it runs

smoothly.
