I recently bought a RioCar because they were clearing them out. That display is awesome, but it's a couple hundred bucks. I figured it was worth it for the display and the hard drives, even if I'm going to put a SliMP3 in my car instead... We could make an interface to that display, but we'd have a tough time doing high speed animations because of the amount of data. I don't think the 4-level display is done by the display itself. More likely they're doing it externally, by refreshing those pixels at different duty cycles. It seems like there's quite a bit of flicker on the pixels that are less than 100% brightness, and I don't think you'd have that if it were the chips in the display doing it.
