Having two lists doesn't work too well. Threads in -users often become
implementation discussions that should be in -dev. I'll cc -dev just in
case there's anyone there who doesn't read -users.

The server would function as before; we're just making another interface
to control it, no?

Yep. We might want to also add an interface for the scrolling and
showbriefly functions.

Crafty - so by 'external control' you meant that the IR would be disabled,
and the commands passed to an external script by this mechanism? If so,
then "extcontrol" should really be "disable_ir" or something. I'd want to
be able to control the server externally, with/without disabling IR.

Would this command return one IR code at a time, or all of them since the
last request? It's kind of an ugly interface either way, because you'd
have to poll very frequently. Perhaps a separate socket from which you can
continuously read the IR commands would be better.

Hm?

I don't understand the delay.

You also would need a parameter to specify which player you want to
control.

Yes, but first let's make the 1.8 release ASAP. I have to check in a
Portuguese translation and some documentation changes, and I'd like to get
Scott's setup.pl improvements checked in and tested. I hope we can get it
all finished today because I'm itching to start on the new stuff!
