is this possible? (itunes...)

I have been updating an iTunes library on my laptop and copying back to 
my server since that user is not logged in. (don't ask why...)  will 
SliMP3 pick up that a new file is there?  I can't do a rescan.  I also 
can't restart the server without logging back in at the server machine.

few seconds later

I was able to update and rescan by telling SliMP3 to use a specific 
folder, then re-choosing itunes...  rescan popped back up.  I was not 
able to view the 3 albums I had imported recently after the rescan.

Thoughts?  Is this just a silly exercise?
